“Mississippi Ironclads”
More people, especially school children should learn about one of America’s
greatest engineers, James B. Eads. With your help, we can make it happen.
We are asking for your financial support to help finish an important documentary
about James B. Eads. When most people hear the name Eads, they think of his
famous bridge spanning the Mississippi at St. Louis. The first steel arch bridge to
cross the mighty river, which helped create a vital link between the East and the
West. What many people do not know is that James B. Eads built another first at
St. Louis, during the Civil War period. We are talking about the very first United
States ironclad gunboats. Plenty of people know of the famous Civil War naval
battle between the USS Monitor and the CSS Virginia (Merrimac) ironclads. But
very few know, that a full month before that historical sea battle, Eads’ City Class
ironclad fleet was fighting against Confederate river forts in order to secure the
river and helping to save the Union.
An important part of making the James B. Eads documentary will be your help.
We have already received partial funding, which has allowed us to film the
interviews and gather archival photos to help tell the story of “Mississippi
Ironclads”. We have begun editing the documentary in St. Louis. We are asking
for donations to help cover our post-production costs for editing services,
graphics and music. We started the project with a modest budget of $22,270 and
have been successful raising just under $10,000 (grants, donations, and in-kind
gifts). We are asking for donations ($50 to $10,000) to help pay for the final
production costs.
We have the dedication to finish the documentary, the support you give us will
help keep us on schedule and ensure the best quality production. For example,
post-production expense will be $300 to $600 to pay for licensing authentic Civil
War period music from the award winning re-enactors, the Eight Regiment Band
Ltd. The more money we have to spend on post-production expenses, like better
music and graphics, will help us make a better more interesting documentary.
